Who we are

Exceed MK Ltd (e-mk) was formed in 2010 by Jim Murrin, Joe Tooman and Martin Lamb.  Each of us has extensive and complimentary experience and expertise in starting, growing, funding and exiting successful businesses.  Jim and Joe also worked for a number of years as SFEDI accredited Business Link Advisers.  We enjoy what we do and derive huge satisfaction from helping other business owners become successful.

We work closely with a small independent group of trusted specialists, with expertise in; finance, human resources, corporate law, website consultancy and marketing.  This group provides professional support to us and our clients.

Beyond this, we have built a strong network of public and private business support organisations and local government contacts.

Jim Murrin

Jim has over 35 years experience as a business owner, company director and business adviser.  He has worked with multi-nationals, such as IBM and Siemens, SMEs and micro-businesses.

In 1996 Jim was part of a small team who led a successful management buyout of an international electronics manufacturer.  Jim is client focused and results oriented, with a successful track record of managing SMEs through periods of high growth.

Jim is a SFEDI accredited Business Adviser and an IoEE Mentor Plus.

Specialities:  Business mentoring, business advice, high-growth business support, business funding and operations.

Joe Tooman

Joe is highly accomplished, culturally aware and results focused, with proven success in managing, developing and directing projects and organisations within the service and manufacturing sectors.

Joe is an innovative, creative and pragmatic problem solver with the ability to introduce, implement and develop practical solutions within fast changing, volatile and emerging markets in the UK and overseas.

Martin Lamb

With more than 25 years experience in the compound semiconductor materials industry, Martin held various senior positions including managing director of Wafer Technology Ltd. He was part of the team that effected a management buyout of Wafer Technology in 1994 and in the following six years turned the business profitable and grew sales aggressively, winning the Queen’s Award for Export in 1997.  As managing director he negotiated the sale of the company to IQE plc in 2000 and then served on the main board of IQE plc whilst it held listings on the main London Stock Exchange and later on AIM.

Since leaving IQE plc Martin has been active as a business angel, investing in a significant number of early-stage companies, mainly in the technology sector.  In additon to his role with e-mk, he is a partner in RMG Wealth Management and serves on the boards of several companies within his portfolio.

Martin holds an MBA from the University of Leicester and a BSc in Applied Physics and Electronics from the University of Durham.

Isobel Davies

Isobel has worked extensively with clients in the public and private sectors to help them maximise the performance and impact of their organisations.   Her consulting practice, In Partnership, was developed following many years as a senior HR practitioner in the commercial sector.  Isobel’s last corporate role was as VP of International HR for 3Com’s Business Systems Company leading a team of seasoned HR professionals around the world.

Prior to 3Com, Isobel held various senior HR roles at Digital Equipment Company and was a senior recruitment consultant for six years.

Isobel is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management and holds a Degree in Psychology.

Specialities: People and organisational development, coaching and mentoring, leadership development, general HR and recruitment planning.

Steve Moran

Steve has a successful career in corporate accounting, having worked for such companies as McDonnell Douglas, BT, Carlson Marketing Group, Cable & Wireless and Weber Shandwick.

Throughout his career, Steve has worked at all levels, providing hands-on experience and senior management insight.  Steve is an independent Chartered Management Accountant.

Specialities: Financial analysis and forecasting, outsourced and interim financial director roles, plus in-depth knowledge of the accounting systems and operational aspects of growing a business.

James Cope

James is an accomplished Web consultant, online marketing expert and project manager.  He has worked extensively with 100′s of business owners to help them succeed and reach their goals of business improvement, utilising online media.  He is the founder and owner of Xpand Web Consultancy, www.xpandwebconsultancy.co.uk.

James has a degree in Business Information Technology and is a member of The Chartered Institute of Marketing.  He is also qualified in Digital Marketing Strategy & Planning, a PRINCE2 qualified Project Manager and a SFEDI accredited Business Adviser.

Specialities: E-marketing strategy, search engine optimisation, e-commerce, web usability and social media, Google Analytics, Adwords and Webmaster tools and software.

Sally Hersant

Sally is an experienced marketing and marketing communications professional and is MD of Profile Marketing Services Ltd., www.profilemarketing.co.uk.  Sally provides support to organisations requiring a hands-on, personal service.

Everything Sally does helps SME owners to communicate with their existing customers and prospects and ultimately to do business with them.

Sally is a member of The Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Specialities: The creation of marketing plans, communications plans, copywriting, design and print and e-marketing campaigns.

Chris Robinson

Chris is an independent legal consultant, specialising in corporate law.  Chris is a solicitor and a former partner in a number of large law firms, with over 25 years’ experience.   Chris provides SME owners with an intensely personal and dependable legal service in a novel and cost-effective way, through virtual law firm Excello Law.  www.clarityincorporatelaw.co.uk.
